But ... the fact that it took Alice so long to figure out the truth about her family frustrated me. The clues were laid out in front of her very early on, and she still didn't get it.That said, I managed to whip through the story quite quickly because I wanted to know what would happen next. I downloaded this book on the recomnmendation of a Facebook friend and I'm so glad that I did. The storyline is so touching and beautifully written, exploring the emotions both of a mother desperate not to lose the bond built with her only daughter and the daughter's turmoil in discovering the circumstances of her birth. I was moved by the revelations throughout the story and felt real empathy for the main characters.
