Commentary To Books Secret Smile
Miranda's sister, Kerri, has a new boyfriend. He's a raven-haired, handsome charmer who seems to dote on Kerri. But Brendan isn't the man he says he is. Miranda should know, because she broke off her own affair with him just a few weeks ago when she found him reading her diary. Now Brendan claims that it was he who ended their short-lived relationship—and everyone believes him. When he and Kerri announce their engagement, Miranda's parents are thrilled for their shyer, less confident daughter. Then Kerri and Brendan beg Miranda to let them live in her apartment until their new home is ready. Against her better judgment, Miranda agrees.
Like a virus, Brendan starts spreading destruction throughout her life. He invades her privacy and disrupts her relationships with her family and friends. And then the real nightmare begins.…
Like the obscenities he whispers into her ear, his onslaughts are as undetectable as they are devastating. Those closest to her begin to doubt her mental stability and accuse her of the very thing she believes drives Brendan: obsession. When Miranda decides to take off the gloves, fight back, and discover what is behind her enemy's bemused, secret smile, the consequences will be terrifying.

I saw the made-for-TV movie first, so maybe that influenced me. Miranda here was so unlikable. She becomes more obsessed than Brendan, playing right into his game. If the point is she becomes the one who's even more obsessed, even more twisted, then it works as a great psychological thriller. I honestly don't know if I believe Naomi at the end when she says Brendan confessed to her about Troy's death. Miranda is a very, very unreliable narrator. Maybe that's the point? That the reader is alsoThis book was so engrossing that I started reading it late one evening and then couldnt stop. I finished it in one sitting as I kept thinking, Just one more chapter, and then not being able to stand not knowing what was going to happen next. By the time I was finished, six hours and 310 pages had gone by and so had most of the night, as well as any opportunity for sleep.Secret Smile is the story of Miranda. Shes been dating Brendan for just over a week when she comes home from work to find him
Not a very deep, but really entertaining psycological thiller. A book that kept me on the edge of my seat, even though the whole premise is not credible and the ending was very obvious . (Why not credible? MILD SPOILER: Since the main character has family and close friends, you'd think that at least one of them would believe her instead of somebody they just met.END)I loathed and felt for Miranda the main character at the same time: She is like the typical herione in a horror movie where you are

Another Nicci French almost stress inducing suspense thriller with a smart charming amiable yet psychotic protagonist that smashes people's lives, and mean utterly messes up people's live completely... and gets away with it. The writing pair that is Nicci French unleash an abominable antagonist on to the streets of London, 6 out of 12
Secret Smile is the first book I have read by this duet of authors who write under this pseudonym. It is also a book I have recommended to more people than any other. It cannot be described as anything else other than a 'page tuner', all be it an excellent one.The book tells the story of Miranda Cotton who ends a short relationship with her creepy boyfriend Brendan. Miranda believes this will be the last time she sees Brendan, until two weeks later he appears back in her life as her sisters new
STORY: 2.5-3 stars SECRET SMILE is just the tip of the iceberg on what could've been a much more intriguing, in-depth, story had Ms. French put more into it. What is supposed to be a gripping, sinister story is more of a suspenseful tease. It was entertaining yet because of the way it is written, everything feels rushed and unnecessarily abbreviated. PERFORMANCE: 5 starsI listened to the audiobook narrated by A. Ando. Ms. Ando did an excellent job narrating this book from start to finish to
Ive read books by Nicci French before and loved them. This one didnt blow me away!! I think it definitely got better towards the end but there wasnt the suspense in this one that I normally find in Frenchs books. Nice way to start the year though :)
