I liked this trilogy I think because it reminded me less of vampires and more of Beauty and the Beast or the Greco-Roman myth of Cupid and Psyche, especially the part where Cupid visits her every night to sleep with her, but demands that she never light any lamps, since he does not want her to know who he is until the time is right.All reminders aside, the whole series is creative with some interesting lands and enemies. DARKANGELThis series was one of my favorites as a teen. Book 1 of the Dark Angel trilogy introduces us to Aeriel, a slave who ends up following her lifelong friend after she was captured by a Darkangel. His goal is to take 14 wives as sacrifices so that he may become a full fledged vampire. Aeriel's friend, Euodine, is to be his 13th wife.Aeriel plots to be captured as well, the Darkangel deciding to take her so as to serve his wives. Upon meeting the Darkangel, she is stricken by his beauty.
Glad to have come across this trilogy. I liked the story and the characters a lot and found it adventurous and intriguing. A lot of the time I was way ahead of the heroine and felt the author was treating the reader as stupid because a lot of the 'riddle' was quite evident to me, and I knew from her foreshadowing, or fore-mentioning what was going to happen, or what Aeriel needed to do etc. That was a little annoying. I enjoyed the love-longing and anticipated the union of Aerial and Irrylath...

Vampires are the newest big thing these days, thanks to Twilight. It is a horrible literary tragedy that Twilight could overshadow the Darkangel Trilogy. Nowhere in this world can Twilight begin to compare. I'll say here what I say to everyone who gets teary-eyed over Twilight: the Darkangel Trilogy will astound you. It blows Twilight away. Until I read Mieville, this book topped my list of odd, intricate, full-of-random-otherworldly-details, dark and disturbing in a lovely way, favorite books. (Though Zelazny's "Jack of Shadows" gave it a good run for its money.) It remains one my favorite trilogies...even though the ending INFURIATED me. Not kidding, I HATED the ending.
